Piano Academy’s trip to BBC Philharmonic concert with Mr. Lim

On Friday the 8th of September the members of the Piano Academy were honoured to attend a concert of the BBC Philharmonic orchestra. Together with our headmaster Mr. Quartermain, we traveled to MediaCity in Salford, Manchester.

Our piano teacher and Head of Keyboard Studies Mr. Lim and Leon Frantzen performed with a professional broadcast orchestra. Mr. Lim performed Granite, a modern piece with a wide range of contrasting emotions. The composer Graham Fitkin was also present in the audience.

Leon Frantzen conducted Wagenaar‘s Cyrano de Bergerac Overture.
The special expression of these performances aroused great enthusiasm among the audience. It made a great impression on me and inspired us to listen and look more into modern music.

All in all the concert was an amazing experience and a great opportunity to broaden our musical horizons. For me, it was great to see my teacher perform and to listen to a piece from a modern composer as well as Wagenaar’s classic.

I am incredibly proud to be a member of the Piano Academy and I am very much looking forward to new trips and would encourage everybody to join.
