Weekly Wellbeing
30.01.25
Wellbeing this term in the senior school has had a focus on recognising kindness as well as self-care. These themes were identified by our team of student Wellbeing Ambassadors as being important areas to tackle in January, which can sometimes feel like a long, dark month. It has been a bright spot each week to hear about students recognising kindness in each other. Self-care has centred around managing exam stress, something which our students will become more acutely aware of as exam season quickly approaches. The Hub can be a wonderful place to practice mindfulness during one of our weekly drop-in sessions on Tuesdays at lunch. We also hosted a parent workshop looking at the risks of mis - and disinformation and helping guide our children through these challenging topics. A visual guide of conversation starters to use at home is linked below.
In the Prep School our assemblies, and well-being theme, this term have been focused on a Growth Mindset. We heard from Mr Turner at the beginning of the term about the success of Luke Littler, becoming PDC World Champion 2025 through years and years of darts practice. The assembly inspired us to believe that if we keep trying, practise and don’t give up then we have the possibility to achieve what we want.
The Prep School has also been learning about the ‘Power of Yet’, and acknowledging that there may be some things that we can’t do …YET! It may be riding a bike, learning to swim or Non-Verbal Reasoning! However, with perseverance, practice and the belief that we will be able to do it someday, we can improve our growth mindset and tackle obstacles in a more positive way. This has been particularly important for our Year 6 pupils in the run-up to the entrance exams. In the words of Theodore Roosevelt: "Believe you can and you're halfway there."
