Direct Entry Into Senior School
International students with a very good level of English may be accepted for entry directly onto our full British curriculum courses in Senior School, including GCSEs, A Levels and IB Diploma Programme.
Lessons in English as an Additional Language (EAL) will be available for those who need them.
Students in years 7-12 usually have four hours of EAL a week, and students in year 13 have three hours a week.
In the EAL department, students will develop the general English skills that they will need for living and studying in the UK.
They will also have the opportunity to take English Language exams such as Cambridge First Certificate, CAE or IELTS and they will receive the necessary preparation and support for these. We offer a wide range of subject choices at GCSE, A Level and IB.
Programmes For International Students
We offer a range of special courses for international students of different ages and abilities who are not yet ready to access the full British curriculum.
Students on these courses study English and a range of other subjects, further details of which are given in the table below. They have the support of the English as an Additional Language (EAL) Department, whose teachers are well-qualified and experienced in working with learners of English.
In EAL lessons, students will develop their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary as well as the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills they need to live and study in the UK. The number of EAL lessons students have will vary according to their level of English and their language learning needs.
As students’ English skills develop, we prepare and enter them for a range of English Language examinations including KET, PET, FCE, CAE, IGCSE English as a Second Language, IGCSE First Language English, and IELTS, for which they will receive the necessary preparation and practice.

This programme prepares pupils to study the British curriculum by providing an intensive English course within subject contexts, building effective foundations for transfer to the mainstream when the pupil is ready.

COURSE:
The GCSE programme is followed with English as an additional language support as required. This programme prepares pupils to study the British curriculum by providing an intensive English course within subject contexts, building effective foundations for transfer to the mainstream when the pupil is ready.

4 – Year 10

GCSE integrated programme with English support / One year integrated Year 11 programme / One year IGCSE.

COURSE:
This three-year course is designed to support both English language, subject development and academic success in small class sizes throughout the three years. Pupils will study up to five subjects (eg: Maths, EAL, Science plus one or two options from Geography, Business Studies, Art and DT and take IGCSE exams or our own Rossall Diploma at the end of year 1 before seamlessly moving into Year 2 and 3 for the full A Level experience. Pupils can choose to join in January and April too, but exams will not need to be taken for pupils joining within these terms. Pupils will then choose three A Level subjects of their choice to complete the full course in Years 2 and 3.

Rossall also offers candidates the CIE First Language Chinese IGCSE which few other schools offer during Year 1 of this course.

Pupils may be entered for IGCSE exams in subjects where they show ability or our own Rossall Diploma at the end of year 1 before seamlessly moving into Year 2 and 3 for the full A Level experience. Pupils can choose to join in January and April too, but exams will not need to be taken for pupils joining in these terms. Pupils who make excellent progress will then choose three A Level subjects of their choice to complete the full course in Years 2 and 3.

COURSE:
This course is for pupils wishing to do an intensive year of study in certain key subjects leading to examinations or the Rossall Diploma at the end of Year 1 before continuing on to complete the International Baccalaureate in Years 2 and 3. Designed to support both English language, subject development and academic success, subjects studied will include English Language/Literature, Maths, Science (Biology), Language (eg: German as a first language) and a Humanity. A second language or Design & Technology could be a sixth choice if required. Pupils can take IGCSE exams at the end of Year 1 or indeed the Rossall Diploma instead if preferred. Pupils can choose to join in January and April too, but exams will not need to be taken for pupils joining in these terms. Pupils can then decide to remain at Rossall to continue with the IB.

COURSE:
Rossall offers students the chance to enjoy half a term (during the final term of the school year only.) Specialist programmes are followed alongside British curriculum integration during the time for students to get a feel for Rossall life during the summer months whilst British pupils are on campus.

COURSE:
Pupils wanting to gain a taste of Rossall life for two to eight weeks can do so during our Summer months. With 20 hours of English learning a week followed by activities and with trips included too, pupils can enjoy life at Rossall before deciding whether to join one of the courses above.
