The days are getting shorter, colder and wetter – autumn is definitely creeping up on us. And I don’t know about you, but to me it makes the company of ‘warm’ people around me even more important than at other times.
In the Rossall Chaplaincy, we have a few places and occasions for those who like to spend time together and with God. One of these is ‘Open Chapel’ every Wednesday evening when some of our boarders enjoy our beautiful chapel – far away from the hustle and bustle of the boarding houses, and with the heavy walls protecting us from the wind blasting and rain pouring outside – with candles flickering in the Memorial Chapel and quietness filling the room.
Some come to read their Bible, some to pray, some to listen to music, some to light a candle or two, and some simply to enjoy the beautiful carvings, statues and windows all around this awesome building.
Some come with friends, others alone – some stay long, and others just pop in. But all of them enjoy the peace and the calm that our wonderful chapel provides. God is there right in the middle of these young people, and I am certain He is enjoying their company at least as much as I do.
It is fantastic that we can get together in our chapel with the entire senior school, and there is not much that can compare to all of them singing Jerusalem at the top of their voice. No wonder, then, that the Headmaster takes a certain pride in the fact that we must be the largest regular congregation for miles…. And yet, we must not forget that God is just as much part of our gatherings when we seek him in small numbers in the quiet.
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew chapter 18, verse 20)
Let’s invite God into our daily lives more often – He can’t wait to join in.
With Love From The Chapel
