On Thursday 10th November, we welcomed history graduate and former Royal Navy Commodore, Mr Rupert Wallace, to Rossall as part of our Speaker Series.
Mr Wallace joined the Royal Navy in 1981, after graduating from Bristol University where he read History. During his service in the Royal Navy, Mr Wallace fought in the Falklands War, spent sixth months in Baghdad and became a specialist in the Middle East and North Africa conflicts. He retired from the Royal Navy in 2014 as a Commodore and has been sharing his Navy experiences ever since.
Mr Wallace spoke to our students about the Arab-Israeli conflict, sharing his knowledge and experience on these complex matters.
Britain was heavily involved in Middle-Eastern conflicts until 1949 when the UN eventually took over. However, the conflict is still going on to this day.
Mr Wallace emphasised how vital it is to learn about the horrors of wars and conflicts, so that we may prevent future ones from occurring.
