Junior School Newsletter – Michaelmas Week 2

This week’s newsletter for Rossall Junior School and Nursery.

YEAR 6

Year 6 have begun their topic on Peace and Conflict this term by creating their own Class Charter to help establish a peaceful and calm working environment. We’ve also taken advantage of the sunshine by completing our first science investigation on light and shadows. Year 6 are a proving to be a real ray of sunshine!

YEAR 5

Year 5 have enjoyed their first full week back after the break. The children have all had a wonderful time reconnecting with their friends and welcoming the new starters. We have been incredibly proud to watch them settle into their new routines with such enthusiasm and ease. We look forward to exciting times ahead!

YEAR 4

It has been great to welcome the new Year 4 back to Junior School! They have been settling in well, getting used to the new routines and of course enjoying catching up with their friends! We have been getting our teeth stuck into our new science work this week (no pun intended) our first unit is called ‘Excuse me, are these your teeth?’ The children have also enjoyed for the first time ever, both Drama and Spanish! We have lots of exciting things to learn and do over the next few weeks and look forward to sharing that with you!

YEAR 3

Year 3 have had a great start to the year – their first in the Junior School moving up from Infants! This week, Year 3 started their new topic “Water, water everywhere” focussing on the sea and coasts, centred around the book “Seal Surfer”.

YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2

This week, we have enjoyed getting to know our teachers. Not just Mrs Roberts and Miss Finney, but the teachers who have taught us for Spanish, Music, Drama and PE. We have had a really busy, but fun time.

In Year 2, The 3 Little Pigs needed our help to investigate what would be the best material to build their houses and protect them from the Big Bad Wolf.

In Year 1, we have been finding out and labelling different parts of the body and thinking about how we are the same as or different from each other.

RECEPTION

The youngest members of our school community have all started their exciting learning journey, from the babies in our new baby room to our new school starters.

The Reception Class have settled brilliantly into their new environment and routines. They have big smiles on their faces and are full of positive emotions – excitement, confidence and happiness. They have quickly learnt exactly where they are going, who will be helping them and what they will be able to do when they get to school. A successful transition has meant that all the children have settled quickly into school, learning and developing from day one.

NURSERY

And just like that, the Baby Room is finally open!

It’s been lovely welcoming our new families this week and seeing the babies settling in so well! They have loved exploring their new room, garden and of course our beautiful campus.
