MUSICAL THEATRE AT ROSSALL

Expanding on the rich offering of our existing Music and Drama Departments the Broadway Academy of Musical Theatre at Rossall School is now available to students who want to take their stage skills to the next level.

We are now offering Dance on the curriculum and a Level 3 BTEC in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) from September 2022.

Running alongside this is a greatly expanded co-curricular timetable of classes covering all aspects of musical theatre including dance, singing and acting.

The Broadway Academy of Performing Arts is divided into three distinct tiers tailored to the needs, experiences and ages of our pupils:

  • Intermediate
  • Senior
  • Advanced

Each section runs two sessions a week (during activity time) and contains lessons and workshops relating directly to acting, dance and musical theatre.

This is complemented by a Saturday morning academy which runs from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm during term time.

Pupils in the academy work towards performance showcases at least once every half term. These large scale bi-annual productions will bring together performers from all sections of the Academy.

In recent years, musicals performed at Rossall have included Les Misérables, Anything Goes and, most recently, West Side Story. In the fullness of time, we intend to take our productions on tour!

Preparation for LAMDA exams will be provided within the context of the Academy and participants will also have the opportunity to prepare for the ABRSM ‘Singing for Musical Theatre’ examinations.

Our dance curriculum includes an introduction to a variety of styles including ballet, tap, hip hop and street dance.

Rossall is known for its excellence when it comes to specialised, tailor made programmes and the Broadway Performing Arts academy will sit alongside our hugely successful Golf, Piano and Football academies.
