Every August, the fans of the 1. FC Koeln start their new season with a service in the Cologne Cathedral – one of the most impressive cathedrals in the world (and certainly worth a visit.)
These fans are not all religious, neither are they all good singers – but they come together in this holy building and sing their anthem with gusto and commitment – just a couple of hours before their beloved team plays their first home match.
Because it cannot hurt, can it?
To entrust the new season to God and maybe pray for some good shots?
Inspired by this tradition of a 2nd league football club, we thought about some verses of Psalm 37 in our first Chapel Service of the new academic year.
“Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
TRUST IN HIM!”
The start of the academy year has been brilliant and the buzz of excited and excitable students on the school ground is palpable. And yet, we all know there will be setbacks. It is important to know that God is there for us in failure as much as in success and that we can rely on Him to nudge us in the right direction, whether we are students, parents or staff.
So I would like to encourage you all to put your trust in Him this academic year – it might not guarantee success, but it will certainly not cause harm.
With Love From The Chapel
