Rossall through to the semi-finals of the ISFA Cup

Last Wednesday, the Rossall Headmaster’s XI played in the Quarter Finals of the Boodles ISFA Cup against Millfield School. This was the first time Rossall had ever made it to the last 8 of the Boodles National Cup and over 200 Rossall students and staff came along to Poolfoot Farm to watch, support, and cheer on the team.

Rossall started the much stronger side and so dominated the ball in the early stages, creating several chances. They also had two penalties turned down, one of which was a handball on the line. They finally made their dominance pay when Stepan Maltsev calmly stepped up from the penalty spot to score half way through the first half.

Rossall created many more chances but a fine goalkeeping performance from Millfield kept the score line at 1-0. Just moments before half time, Stepan Maltsev scored a second goal meaning Rossall went in at half time 2-0 up.

Rossall started the second half the same way in which they ended the first and dominated the ball, again creating many chances but were unable to add to their lead, having 3 chances cleared off the line.

With 10 minutes of the game to go, Millfield scored against the run of play, resulting in a nervy last 10 minute where Millfield pushed forward for the equaliser. The Rossall defence stood strong and they emerged as the winners with a final score of 2-1.

This means that the team advance into the Semi-Finals and places Rossall in the top 4 football teams nationally.
