Expanding on the rich offering of our existing Music and Drama Departments we are delighted to announce the launch of the Broadway Academy of Musical Theatre at Rossall School.
To coincide with this launch we are delighted to announce that we will be offering Dance on the curriculum and a Level 3 BTEC in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) from September 2022.
Alongside this will be a greatly expanded co-curricular timetable of classes covering all aspects of musical theatre including dance, singing and acting.
The Broadway Academy of Performing Arts will be divided into three distinct tiers tailored to the needs, experiences and ages of our pupils:
Each section will run two sessions a week (during activity time) and will contain lessons and workshops relating directly to acting, dance and musical theatre.
This will be complemented by a Saturday morning academy which will run from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.
Pupils in the academy will work towards performance showcases at least once every half term.Large scale bi-annual productions will bring together performers from all sections of the Academy.
In recent years, musicals performed at Rossall have included Les Misérables, Anything Goes and, most recently, West Side Story. In the fullness of time, we intend to take our productions on tour!
Preparation for LAMDA exams will be provided within the context of the Academy and participants will also have the opportunity to prepare for the ABRSM ‘Singing for Musical Theatre’ examinations.
Our dance curriculum will include an introduction to a variety of styles including ballet, tap, hip hop and street dance.
Rossall is known for its excellence when it comes to specialised, tailor made programmes and the Broadway Performing Arts academy will sit alongside our hugely successful Golf, Piano and Football academies.
Membership of the Academy is open to all current members of the School, with sessions taking place during the week included in the termly school fee
However there will be an additional charge for Saturday morning workshops and one to one tuition in dance, singing or acting.
A small number of specific Musical Theatre Scholarships are available for 2022. These may be supplemented with means-tested bursaries dependent upon parental income.
Led by experienced industry professionals the Academy will open pathways to performance for aspiring singers, actors and dancers.
If you are interested in a career in the performing arts then Rossall offers the chance at both a world class academic education and practical training for stage, screen and beyond.
With the opening of the Academy there will be even more opportunities for students to perform in showcases and full productions at the school, making use of the 3 dedicated stages across the campus.
